Installation under Linux Mint 12 (Lisa)

Saturday, June 2nd, 2012

1. Download Julius (current version). Extract the archive.
2. cd /home/linuxmint/Documents/julius-4.2.1
3. ./configure --enable-words-int
Error message: configure: error: flex library not found! installation terminated
I have to install flex first.
4. sudo apt-get install build-essential zlib1g-dev flex
5. sudo apt-get install libasound2-dev libesd0-dev libsndfile1-dev
6. Now I can repeat step 3: ./configure --enable-words-int
7. make
8. sudo make install

When I type into the terminal “julius”, I get the message that Julius rev.4.2.1 is installed. It works.

Install it under Linux Mint Debian Edition

Here is what I do on my LMDE computer:
1. sudo aptitude install build-essential zlib1g-dev flex
2. sudo aptitude install libasound2-dev libesd0-dev libsndfile1-dev
3. Download Julius (current version).
4. Extract the downloaded version.
5. cd /home/linuxmint/Documents/julius-4.2.1
6. ./configure --enable-words-int
Why the option “--enable-words-int“? I want that Julius recognizes more than 50.000 words. There seems to be a maximum size limit that can be increased with the --enable-words-int option.
7. make
8. sudo make install
