Recently, the recording of training samples failed. I got an e-mail (thanks for that) with the question whether other KDE 4 applications work normal. To be honest: I don’t know. Probably not, because I am using the standard Ubuntu desktop (I think that it uses GNOME).
OK, but recently I made a fresh installation of Ubuntu. Now I am using Jaunty Jackalope. I will install the Simon 0.2-rc1 release (.deb file) with the Package Installer. Interesting, during the installation additional package files are being downloaded. I am now installing the Simon package. The installation was successful.
I will try later whether recording of some training words will be possible.
Shadow dictionary
In the e-mail, I was informed that the shadow dictionary filters duplicates. That sounds good. I would be interested in an option to export a dictionary (preferably as XML). In my opinion, a good software doesn’t just allow the import of an XML (PLS) dictionary but also the export. The XML export file could contain information about the terminals of each word.
Import of XML/FLAC files
Unfortunately, the import of German XML training samples (with references to FLAC files) isn’t efficiently possible. I hope that an import function (for XML/FLAC files) will be implemented in a future version of Simon. It would be great if I could import these XML/FLAC training samples with Simon directly from the web and use them for training.
You can see that I have a lot of wishes. I have started to learn about C++ and Qt because I want to see more results.
