What is wrong with the wav file?

I was able to set up my input / output device with simon correctly. I could train the word ‘abgeben’ (recording was possible with the normal on board sound, not with the USB sound card). And it was possible to listen to the recorded sound with simon. But then I wanted to listen to the recorded wav file with Totem. This error message was displayed:

“GStreamer encountered a general stream error.”

But I am able to import the wav file that I have recorded with simon into Audacity (drag and drop). Here is the sound wave of the word ‘abgeben’:

abgeben

Maybe simon is blocking Totem? This would be an explanation.

I would like to give you some further explanation. A few days ago, I have recorded the sound [eː] (U+0065 (e), U+02D0). This sound is similar (but not the same) to the sound e in pet. Here is the sound wave:

waveform-e

There is a repetitive pattern. I have marked the repetitions with the number 1. And now let’s compare the two images. The e: area apgbm̩ in the upper image corresponds to the pattern displayed in the lower image.

Recently, I found out that it is pretty good to change the default view mode in the Audacity preferences to Waveform (db):

The result is that the sound wave is scaled differently. I find this pretty helpful (of course it isn’t necessary). I am not sure whether I should change the display range minimum from currently -60 dB (PCM range of 10 bit samples) to -96 db (PCM range of 16 bit samples).
