testing simon

I just disabled the folder /home/ubuntu-64bit/.kde/share/apps/simon/ by renaming it. Then I restarted simon. Now I want to import the prompts file and the folder with the wav files into simon:

I want to see what happens after I press the Next button. simon is now importing 586 files. simon displays the message: “The files have been imported.”

Probably, the folder /home/ubuntu-64bit/.kde/share/apps/simon/model/training.data is OK. It has been created during import into simon.

Let’s take a look at the imported prompts file. Here are the first three lines:

Obviously, the date information has been duplicated. Each line contains the old date and the new date. I can see that the wav files have been renamed during import.

OK, now I need a dictionary. I have two possibilities:
- import Ralf’s German dictionary or
- copy the lexicon file from the backup folder to the folder /home/ubuntu-64bit/.kde/share/apps/simon/. I think that I will try the second possibility. I tried this, but simon didn’t display a word list.

So I try to import Ralf’s German dictionary. Now I am importing german-dictionary.xml.bz2. I have to wait a few moments because this dictionary contains a lot of words. simon displays that the dictionary has been imported successfully. So I press the Finish button.

This is what I have now:
1. prompts file that has been modified by simon during import.
2. training.data folder with wav files that have been renamed by simon during import
3. the shadow vocabulary file:///home/ubuntu-64bit/.kde/share/apps/simon/model/shadow.voca

I don’t have an active vocabulary. I am now starting ksimond, then I want to see what happens when I press simon > Connect. simon now displays the error message:

The Recognition reported the following error:
Could not initialize recognition

That’s OK because there is no active vocabulary, no grammar. I want to see what happens when I press simon > Synchronize. Interesting: simon created several files in the folder /home/ubuntu-64bit/.kde/share/apps/simon/model/. The lexicon file is now available again. That doesn’t look too bad. But when I press Activate, simon displays:

Couldn’t start recognition because the system reports that the recognition is not ready.

Please check if you have defined a wordlist, an appropriate grammar and recorded a few trainings samples.

Well, a word list is available:

So I have a word list. Maybe I should do the following:
- simon > Recognition > unmark the Connected button so that simon is not connected with ksimond.
- ksimond > Restart simond
- simon > Connect
- simon > Synchronize

When I do that, simon still displays:

The Recognition reported the following error:
Could not initialize recognition

All ingriedients are available:
- word list with more than 200 German words
- grammar (“Unknown” and “Unknown Unknown Unknown Unknown”). By the way: where did this information come from? Why does simon know which grammar it should use? I didn’t give this information during import. Maybe this information has been stored at a different location on the computer.
- training samples are available.

Maybe I should have deleted the folder /home/ubuntu-64bit/.kde/share/apps/simond/ before importing the prompts file, the training.data folder, and Ralf's German dictionary.

I think that I will try the whole import procedure again. I am quitting simon and ksimond. Now I am deleting the folders:
- delete the folder file:///home/ubuntu-64bit/.kde/share/apps/simon
- delete the folder file:///home/ubuntu-64bit/.kde/share/apps/simond

And now I am starting simon. Now simon > Training > Import Trainingsdata > Import prompts. After pressing the Next button, I have to wait a few moments. The files have been imported. I press the Finish button.

Now I am importing Ralf’s German dictionary german-dictionary.xml.bz2. After the import is finished, I want to
- start ksimond
- simon > Connect
- simon > Synchronize

I want to see what will happen. I started ksimond, I pressed simon > Connect. The following message appears:

The Recognition Server returned the following fatal error:
Wrong username or password.

OK, I take a look into ksimond > Configuration > User. There is no user available any more. That’s OK because I deleted the folder file:///home/ubuntu-64bit/.kde/share/apps/simond (which has been re-created probably when starting ksimond).

I am now adding a user: (1) ksimond > (2) User > (3) Add
(4) User name is “a”.
(5) Password is “a”.

Now simon > Connect. Connected but deactivated.
Now simon > Synchronize. No word list is available. No grammar is available.

Maybe I should select a word from the shadow lexicon, then train it, then synchronize. Maybe I will try that later.

You can see that I find it difficult to restore my old simon files.
