This article explains how to connect with ksimond. The architecture is as follows: "simon (client)", "connects with", "ksimond (server)".
1. This is what happened before: A few minutes ago, you have added the dictation plug-in. Now you press the Connect button.
2. After you have pressed the Connect button, simon is trying to connect to ksimond. But the connection can’t be established: Connection refused because ksimond isn’t running. Press the OK button.
3. Ubuntu > Applications > Universal Access > ksimond.
4. Press the Connect button again (same procedure as in step 1).
5. After you have pressed the Connect button, the Connect button disappears. Instead, the Activate button is being displayed. “simon” is now “connected with” “ksimond”. Press the Activate button.
6. After you have pressed the Activate button, the Activate button disappears. Instead, the Activated button is being displayed.
7. simon displays that it is Activated. Now open the text editor gedit, and click into the white gedit area. Now speak into the microphone the German word Sonnenoberfläche.
8. After speaking “Sonnenoberfläche” into the microphone, simon “types” Sonnenoberflche into gedit. The German Umlaut “ä” is missing. You can see that recognition is possible with just one single word.
9. After “typing” Sonnenoberflche into gedit, I pressed the Activated button because I wanted to stop the recognition. Then simon crashed, here is the report: simon-20100618.kcrash.
Now you know how you can make simon recognize one single German word. You had to follow the instructions of the following tutorials:
1. Tutorial: you had to import the dictionary.
2. Tutorial: you had to train a German word.
3. Tutorial: you had to define a German grammar.
4. Tutorial: you had to add the dictation plug-in.
5. Tutorial: you had to connect with ksimond.
